The Assistive Technology Clinic of Toledo began in 2001 in an attempt to fill a void in the lives of individuals with disabilities within our community. We believe that every person deserves the opportunity to live a more fulfilling, functional and independent life.

Often times, people with physical disabilities are perceived as being dependent on others in every facet of their life. However, now more than ever, in this world of rapidly improving technology, people with disabilities have an opportunity to live a life of independence with access to appropriate assistive technology.

The ATCT is a means to do just that. We have partnered with leading manufacturers in the rehab industry to obtain devices/equipment that allow our clients to demonstrate their vast abilities. Although in the past therapists have had to make educated guesses as to whether or not a person would be able to utilize a certain piece of equipment, the ATCT allows clients to use potentially beneficial technology on a trial basis before making a financial investment in the equipment.

Our experienced and passionate staff strives to offer a comprehensive evaluation of current skills, suggestions for improvements and/or training required, prescription and provision of equipment and any necessary follow up for training and education of caregivers as well as the client. We are the only clinic in the region with the experience, resources and professionalism throughout the entire process. This clinic is the only opportunity for a client to have an on-going evaluation of skills to determine the appropriate equipment for them to access their environment in the most efficient way.

The ATCT is designed for anyone in need of technology to assist them in living life to its fullest. Our specialties include (but are not limited to) the following neurological impairments:

bullet Cerebral Palsy
bullet Muscular Dystrophy
bullet Spinal Cord Injury
bullet Traumatic Brain Injury
bullet Cerebrovascular Accident
bullet Multiple Sclerosis
bullet Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Our goal is to:

bullet prescribe appropriate, functional and cost-efficient mobility
bullet prescribe alternative means of communication for those who are speech impaired
bullet assess for computer access and environmental control for functional independence
bullet provide education and training in use of the prescribed equipment

The ATCT also offers...

bullet evaluation of current status
bullet determination of goals
bullet consultation with family and community/school professionals
bullet trial of potential technology
bullet recommendation for additional time and training if needed
bullet prescription of recommended equipment
bullet assist in acquisition of recommended equipment
bullet follow up for training and instruction for the client and all associated caregivers
bullet remain a community resource for consultation as needed

The above steps are repeated as often as necessary for each area of a person's life, including mobility, communication, computer access and environmental control.
